Oy vey. Got to experience a NY 3-miler last night in Lower Manhattan. Nothing like bottlenecking the start and finish.
This was the collection of 8-minute mile pace groups, there is easily twice as many behind me for this picture.

More. Winning time was a 15:16, we had to be in our spots by 6:30, the race went off at 6:48.

There is a race by my house which used to be super fun, but some how everyone found out about it and it has become huge. 15yrs ago it was a few hundred, then it peaked around a 1,000 or so about 6 years ago. The race this year is 12,500. It isn’t even fun. I did it last year and it was 10k+.
It is held in a tiny beach town and about two miles of the race are walking because you can’t get separation unless you are at the front or back. Being that I’m not fast and I’m avging 7'ish miles I get screwed.

Sounds about right. There is a race near me that is flat and straight. The world found out about it for PRs and it’s been “overrun” ever since. All it takes is one of those stupid emails from Active “The best race to PR your 5k” or whatever and suddenly you have 1000 people coming to toe the start line push strollers while you try to get around them.

I do like people for energy, but not that many people. I’m just whiny haha.
Yea the whole PR thing bugs me. Grab Strava and compete against yourself ha.

Wow, always amazes me just how much of a rift there is between me and the truly fast guys. I mean I’m pretty quick but the elite guys usually get around a full minute faster pace than me for any given distance.

Well, to be fair, this race had a fair share of the AIG, JP Morgan and Merril Lynch guys who are willing to die just to be better than some guy they work next to. They’re way too competitive for most of us.
